M: Margit
B: Italienerin
M: In which pavillon have you already been?
B1: In the French one, in Turkey, in Qatar, in Ecuador.
M: And why did you choose these countries?
B2: France, because I am a French teacher, yes, and I am here today with my students, and now they are here around the Expo, I am with a collegue.
M: So we could talk about the French pavillon; what did you expect there?
B3: First of all I’ve been invited by the director of the French pavillon. And in fact my students have free entrance. It was established by the French institute for the Italian students who studied French.
And the others: because the Qatar pavillon: it was possible to have these tattoos, Ecuador and Turkey because they are exotic countries, different from our culture.
M: And in the French pavillon, did you see that it was the French pavillon?
B4: The French pavillon was organized about the theme of cooking and future food, the food of the future. And what else?
M: What did you expect there? Did you expect specially French subjects?
B5: Really I did not expect something particularly, I just went curious to see what I could find.
M: Did you find something special French?
B6: Something special French... I can say you what I found interesting: the studies about the food of the future, the rest of the pavillon was dedicated to cheese, wine, all the things you can also learn in the books or if you go to France, to visit France.
M: But cheese typically French?
B7: Yes.
M: Did you like these typical aspects?
B8: In the French pavillon or in general?
M: Both, but French especially.
B9: I find the French pavillon is the best one, from the aesthetic point of view and for the organization and for the guide who was very very prepared. And my students also were very satisfied, have you seen the French pavillon?
M: No.
B10: I advise you to go, because it deserves I don’t know if it was objective, but it was very very clever, with a strong sense of beauty in my opinion.
M: What would you think: what is typically French?
B11: in the pavillon?
M: For you in general.
B12: What do you mean? in which sense?
M: In cultural sense.
B13: La grandeur oui, si, yes, I spoke French this morning, that’s why. La grandeur, this is the way of living, the conception of the daily life, they are very careful to the details, I don’t know if I’ve been clear, and it was possible to see it in the French pavillon, they cure the details of everything, and they always try to make understand that they are the best, I think this is typical for the way of thinking of French, yes, I’m cautious, but even if I love French culture and French literature for example, but I think they are a little arrogant.
M: They think they are the best, is your opinion?
B14: Of the pavillon? Yes, but I know they have faults.
M: Which pavillon you want to see next? And why?
B15: I want to revisit the Cameroun one, I already visited two days ago. On Wednesday I was here alone because I was invited to a conference in Palazzo Italia and I visited some African pavillons, and Cameroun was very interesting, it’s very simple and very small, but there are products typical of the handcraft, that I loved. And secondly one of the best friends of my son comes from Cameroun, so I want to visit again. And maybe I buy something as a souvenir from the country.
M: What do you think in these days, is it up to date to make an exhibition of all the countries like this here because of the global theme of nutrition?
B16: Sincerely nutrition not yet. My collegue has noticed that the pavillon...oh no, could you repeat the question, I misunderstood?
M: The subject here is a global subject, feeding the world, do you think it is up to date to make country solutions for this global subject?
B17: But in the Expo?
M: Yes
B18: Not always, for example there are some countries, that in my opinion don’t speak about food, but have used this occasion just to present themselves, for example for the tourists, for holidays and so on.
M: But you come to the Expo because of the countries or because of the subject?
B19: That’s the question. I came to the Expo first of all because I was invited and it was an opportunity for my students to visit it without spending money, because they had a free entrance, I haven’t yet understood if I have a good opinion of the Expo. I have to think of it, because I am not sure if this is the right way to speak about food, problems of water.
M: I think it’s too loud now, thank you.
