Interview 1: Zwei Frauen (Schweizerin, Deutsche)
ANG: Angelika
A: Schweizerin/Deutsche
ANG: In welchem Pavillon waren Sie bisher?
A9: Uruguay.
ANG: Nach äußeren Gesichtspunkten also.
A10: Ja.
A12: Nein.
ANG: Gut. Was interessiert Sie besonders?
Also Ernährung.

Interview 2: Italienerin
M: Margit
B: Italienerin
M: In which pavillon have you already been?
B1: In the French one, in Turkey, in Qatar, in Ecuador.
M: And why did you choose these countries?
B2: France, because I am a French teacher, yes, and I am here today with my students, and now they are here around the Expo, I am with a collegue.
M: So we could talk about the French pavillon; what did you expect there?
B3: First of all I’ve been invited by the director of the French pavillon. And in fact my students have free entrance. It was established by the French institute for the Italian students who studied French.
And the others: because the Qatar pavillon: it was possible to have these tattoos, Ecuador and Turkey because they are exotic countries, different from our culture.
M: And in the French pavillon, did you see that it was the French pavillon?
B4: The French pavillon was organized about the theme of cooking and future food, the food of the future. And what else?
M: What did you expect there? Did you expect specially French subjects?
B5: Really I did not expect something particularly, I just went curious to see what I could find.
M: Did you find something special French?
B6: Something special French... I can say you what I found interesting: the studies about the food of the future, the rest of the pavillon was dedicated to cheese, wine, all the things you can also learn in the books or if you go to France, to visit France.
M: but cheese typically French?
B7: Yes.
M: Did you like these typical aspects?
B8: In the French pavillon or in general?
M: Both, but French especially.
B9: I find the French pavillon is the best one, from the aesthetic point of view and for the organization and for the guide who was very very prepared. And my students also were very satisfied, have you seen the French pavillon?
M: No.
B10: I advise you to go, because it deserves I don’t know if it was objective, but it was very very clever, with a strong sense of beauty in my opinion.
M: What would you think: what is typically French?
B11: in the pavillon?
M: For you in general.
B12: What do you mean? in which sense?
M: In cultural sense.
B13: La grandeur oui, si, yes, I spoke French this morning, that’s why. La grandeur, this is the way of living, the conception of the daily life, they are very careful to the details, I don’t know if I’ve been clear, and it was possible to see it in the French pavillon, they cure the details of everything, and they always try to make understand that they are the best, I think this is typical for the way of thinking of French, yes, I’m cautious, but even if I love French culture and French literature for example, but I think they are a little arrogant.
M: They think they are the best, is your opinion?
B14: Of the pavillon? Yes, but I know they have faults.
M: Which pavillon you want to see next? And why?
B15: I want to revisit the Cameroun one, I already visited two days ago. On Wednesday I was here alone because I was invited to a conference in Palazzo Italia and I visited some African pavillons, and Cameroun was very interesting, it’s very simple and very small, but there are products typical of the handcraft, that I loved. And secondly one of the best friends of my son comes from Cameroun, so I want to visit again. And maybe I buy something as a souvenir from the country.
M: What do you think in these days, is it up to date to make an exhibition of all the countries like this here because of the global theme of nutrition?
B16: Sincerely nutrition not yet. My collegue has noticed that the pavillon...oh no, could you repeat the question, I misunderstood?
M: The subject here is a global subject, feeding the world, do you think it is up to date to make country solutions for this global subject?
B17: But in the Expo?
M: Yes
B18: Not always, for example there are some countries, that in my opinion don’t speak about food, but have used this occasion just to present themselves, for example for the tourists, for holidays and so on.
M: But you come to the Expo because of the countries or because of the subject?
B19: That’s the question. I came to the Expo first of all because I was invited and it was an opportunity for my students to visit it without spending money, because they had a free entrance, I haven’t yet understood if I have a good opinion of the Expo. I have to think of it, because I am not sure if this is the right way to speak about food, problems of water.
M: I think it’s too loud now, thank you.

Interview 3: Deutsches Paar
A: Angelika
C: deutscher Mann/deutsche Frau
A: In welchem Pavillon waren Sie schon?

M: In which pavillon have you already been?
D1: I’ve been to Germany, Belgium, .. Egypt.
M: And why did you choose them?
D2: Because I’m working for the... it’s my job.
M: Did you expect something special in these countries pavillons?
D3: Yes, I can recognize very typical characters of each countries, from Germany...
M: And did you expect this?
D4: Yes.
M: Did you recognize that it was the German pavillon or the Belgium?
D5: Yes, I could.
M: How?
D6: For example in Germany, very educational before, in the first floor you have to learn many things, and in the second floor you can learn something like...not so heavy things, but very easy, but you can learn many things and after they waited you with a music.
M: It was German music?
D7: Yes, .... because it’s very organized. I didn’t have to wait a long time to walk and there are many people to expedite me and they are very expert to explain many things, it was very organized, you know.
M: Do you think, Germany is an organized country?
D8: I have the impression that it is very similar to Japan, very hard working, but time also dedicated for the diversion, they want to drink, they want to have fun with their friends after the job. I think this is very similar to Japanese culture.
M: And that was what you expected from Germany?
D9: I can’t say that I really expected, but I had a great confidence with the Germans,.... for example when I had to choose the airplane to come to Europe and some Asian said you have only the German flight with Lufthansa, I always say „Okay, Lufthansa is very confident”. I don’t know why, but it’s a very big impression of Germany, confidence.
M: So, you came to Expo because of your job, I understood. What do you think about the global subject here: feed the planet.
D10: Feed the planet, it’s an important thing, that’s always a motive that you can...you can choose many titles for the Expo, but food I think it’s a very easy, so that everybody can come.
Many people carry their money and put it inside, and you can learn from many pavillons that you have to learn how the food is important and you can’t refuse many things, but I’ve seen at the entrance there is a machine which you take off the money to spend here inside............
M: You think there are special solutions from the countries for this global subject „feeding the world”?
D11: I don’t know how much influence can be get for the people, but the people come here for the exception, for the punk, for find something new, for curiosity, but not so for really serious motives and to change something.
M: You think in our global time it’s up to date to make an exposition like this with different countries? It’s special here to see the difference between the countries. Do you think people like this difference? Especially you?
D12: My impression is: The US pavillon here and in front of it the Iranian pavillon, they are fighting, right? not so confidential the countries each other, but when you see all countries together, it makes you feel peace and happy, because the whole world is here. It’s a kind of illusion.
M: And you like this illusion?
D13: No, it’s because of my job, I’m not sure if I come here. I’m just excited to see the new things... you have to be critical for what you’ve seen, you can say many things without the reality of this Expo...I can see that it’s a peaceful ambience...people doesn’t care ...every people is free, it’s a freedom feeling that you can come there....I think it’s very nice..
